Does solar really work in Scotland?
Yes. Scotland has long summer days — June daylight runs past 18 hours — and panels work on diffuse light, not just direct sun, so a grey afternoon still generates. Annual output is around 80–85% of southern England and closing each year. We size every system to Scottish daylight, not generic UK averages.
Is there a grant for solar in Scotland?
Not currently. The Home Energy Scotland interest-free loan for standalone solar and batteries was withdrawn in June 2024. What does still apply is 0% VAT on the supply and installation (until 31 March 2027) and the Smart Export Guarantee, where your energy supplier pays you for surplus power you export. You sign up for the SEG with your electricity supplier; we register the installation on the MCS database and give you the MCS certificate they need.
Why is the price a range and not a fixed figure?
Because the exact number depends on your roof — its size, pitch, aspect and any shading — plus your usage and whether you add a battery. The estimate here is genuinely indicative; your exact price is confirmed at a free survey, and it only moves from the estimate for a real reason we explain.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. We fit hybrid (battery-ready) inverters by default, so adding storage in a couple of years needs no rewiring or rework. You can also add a battery to the estimate here to see how it changes the numbers.
Do I need a south-facing roof?
South is best, but east or west works well — typically 80–85% of optimal. North-facing roofs generally aren’t worth fitting. We model your specific roof at the survey and tell you honestly whether the numbers stack up before you commit.
